Obituary for Patricia Ann Jenkins

Patricia Kay (Strickland) Jenkins, of Velma, departed this life on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Integris Hospital SW in Oklahoma City at the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 17 days. Memorial services honoring the life of Patricia and her late husband James B. Jenkins will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Velma with Pastor Kerry Glasgow officiating. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Velma.

Patricia was born on November 2, 1946 in Comanche to the late Mr. Guy Strickland and Mrs. Eva (Couey) Strickland.

She was raised in Velma as the youngest of seven children. Patricia attended Velma schools and graduated with the Velma High School Class of 1965. She worked in her mother’s cafe and always loved to share stories about the café. Patricia moved to Oklahoma City in 1970 and worked for the State of Oklahoma. Patricia met and later married Mr. James B. Jenkins on July 6, 1977. She then returned to Velma in 1982 working at the Corporation Commissioners Office. Patricia and James made their home in Velma and was proud of their hometown. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. Patricia enjoyed painting, doing ceramics and had handmade each grandchild their own pieces. She never met a stranger and loved to talk and visit with people and called everyone “baby” or “honey”. She enjoyed fishing trips with family and was a proud grandmother and loved spending time with them.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James B. Jenkins; Brother, Don Strickland; sisters, Joyce Bright and Barbara Tadlock.

She is survived by her son; Yancey Bishop and his wife Jennifer of Tuttle; daughter, LaTisha Miller and her husband Jimmy of Lone Grove: son, James Jenkins and his wife Cynthia of Muskogee; grandchildren, Hunter Bishop, Bryce Walker, Kyle Miller, Tyler Brannon, Tanner Brannon, Ronnie Jenkins, and Ryan Jenkins; one great grandchild, Zoe Jenkins; sister, Shirley Breen of Spokane, WA; brothers, Jerry Strickland and his wife Sue of Velma and Bill Strickland and his wife Jane of Velma; Many other relatives and a host of friends.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Hank Presgrove, Luke Pollard, J.L. McMeans, Harold Darity, Ron Casell, and Skeet Chapman.
