Obituary for Judy Beth Godfrey

Wilson - Funeral Services for Ms. Judy Beth Godfrey, 78 of Ardmore are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Wilson with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Interment will follow to Hewitt Cemetery.

On June 21, 1943, Judy Beth Godfrey arrived as the first daughter of R.D. and Mary Mae (Brittain) Godfrey of Ardmore, OK. She was later joined by sister Mary Jane, and brother, Richard James "Jim". Her educational journey began as a young child attending school in Healdton, Wilson, and Fox, and continued as a teacher at Graham, Fox, and Dickson Public Schools. She was an active member of OEA and Dickson Education Association throughout her career of 35 years.

She earned a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Elementary Education at East Central University. Teaching English as a Secondary Language classes through Ardmore Public Schools gave her the opportunity to influence and encourage many new citizens who became friends.

Judy was as passionate as anyone when it came to the love and care for animals of all kinds even stopping one time on a busy highway in the rain to rescue an injured bird. She was never without a pet which includes her current housemates; Lilly and LuLu, the cats. Those who knew Judy were aware of how much buying and wearing jewelry brought her so much pleasure and many compliments. She was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation and enjoyed being at McKee-Smallwood Family reunions held at her great grandparents' homeplace on original allotted land near Soper, OK.

Generous, compassionate and delightful are some ways to describe Judy. Even though her health declined over the past few years, Judy was not one to complain and was always so appreciative of whatever was done to help her.

In addition to many friends, the family members blessed to have had Judy in their lives are: Sister, Jane Marshall and husband Phillip of Ardmore, OK; Brother, Jim Godfrey of Okmulgee, OK. Nephews: Rich Marshall and wife Jennifer of Tulsa, OK; Jace Marshall and wife Meredith of Oklahoma City, OK; great nephews and nieces: Nick Marshall of Yukon, OK; Lauren Marshall of Norman, OK; Caroline Marshall and Griffin Marshall of Oklahoma City, OK. Her extended family includes: Don Witter and wife Mary; Karl Witter and wife Pat; Bill Brittain and wife Donna; Raymond Brittain, David W. Brittain, Virgil Shafer and wife Barb, McKee family members, and good friend Anita Emberlin.

Casket Bearers are Jim Godfrey, Phillip Marshall, Rich Marshall, Jace Marshall, Michael Pulis, Arron Pulis, James Griffin, and David Brittain
