Obituary for Leland "Skeet" Jack Chapman

Velma - Funeral services for Mr. Leland "Skeet" Jack Chapman, 70, of Velma are scheduled for 2:00pm Wednesday Dec. 22, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Velma with Gary Cannon, Carl Johnson and Don Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow at the New Velma Cemetery. Services are under the care of Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.

Skeet was born March 18, 1951 at Duncan to the late Mr. J T Chapman and Mrs. Wanda (Cartwright) Chapman. He departed this life Friday evening Dec. 17, 2021 at a healthcare facility in Oklahoma City.

Skeet was raised in Velma where he graduated high school in 1969. He then attended college at Murray State of Tishomingo. He and the former Ms. Myrna Wright were united in marriage on June 13, 1970 at the Velma Assembly of God Church. They made their home primarily in Velma and were blessed with three daughters.

Skeet owned and operated Jenkins Pump & Supply for many years and also farmed and ranched. He was also an independent Oil producer "Chapman Oil" of Velma. Skeet always loved people and honored his many friendships with the utmost importance. He was a member of the East Lincoln Church of Christ of Healdton.

Preceding him in death were his, parents and a grandson, Jack Williams.

Survivors include his loving wife Myrna of the home; daughters, Renea Ely, Shannon Williams and Courtney Thompson and husband Sean, all of Velma; sister, Norma Stagner and husband Leo of Velma; Brother, Bim Chapman of Velma; grandchildren, Emily Ely, Bryan Ely, Lexi Williams, Laney Williams, Tripp Thompson and Nash Thompson; uncle, Bob Chapman and wife Joyce of Tom Bean, TX; lifelong best friend, Ray Pearson and wife Marsha of Oil City; numerous other family and friends.

Casket bearers are Donald Dulworth, Mark Ely, Kent Kendall, Jimmy Sanner, Bryan Ely, Kirby Horner, Kevin Mullins, Sean Thompson and Tripp Thompson.

Honorary bearers are Bim Chapman, Gary Mack Chapman, Ray Pearson, Leo Stagner, J.L. McMeans, Mack McClennen, Bob Chapman, W.O. Chapman, Darrell Sparks, Leo Stiewert, Ronnie Peavler and Jerry White.

Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday evening at Alexander Gray Velma Chapel.
