Obituary for Louise Cora Mumford (Cowan)

Ratliff City- Funeral Services for Louise Cora (Cowan) Mumford, 80, of Fox, are scheduled for 2 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Milo Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow to Ratliff City Cemetery. Services are under direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Ratliff City.

Louise was born July 6, 1942 at Lindsay, OK to the late Mr. Hiram Everett Cowan and Mrs. Lora Lvina (Southard) Cowan. She departed this life Thursday, August 11, 2022, at her home in Fox.

Louise was born in Lindsay but grew up in Byars, OK. She attended school at Peavine and later at Wayne. Louise married the love of her life, Thomas Lee Mumford, on January 2, 1959 at Gainesville, TX. The couple lived in Pauls Valley but later made their home in Fox. Louise became the proud mother of 8 children, five sons, and 3 daughters. She worked for numerous cafes while attending nursing school. Once Louise became a nurse she went to work for Healdton Hospital and still remained employed there when they became Mercy owned, working both at Healdton and Ardmore Hospitals. After 27 years she retired in 2008. Louise continued using her nursing ability when she would care for those who were homebound. She loved gardening, mowing her lawn, caring for her cat, Thomas, and having family gatherings. Louise was an excellent cook.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Lora and Hiram Cowan; husband, Tom in 2008; two sons, Jeffrey and Rick; two daughters, Lindy and Sherry; grandson, Payton Mumford.

She is survived by her children, Jim Mumford and wife Darla of Fox, Bob Mumford and wife Kim of Fox, Johnny Mumford and wife Amber of Denton, TX., Tammy Smith and husband JimTom of Fox, special daughter, Amber Dunn, brother, Joe Cowan and wife Virginia of Byars, OK; grandsons, Dillon and wife Carson, Dalton, Jesse; granddaughters, Lacey, Kasey, Amber, Alisha, Jesseka, Abbie; 13 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Joe Oakman, Michael Sanchez, Caleb Holbrook, Dillon Mumford, Ronnie Hayes, Keith Morse, and Billy Cowan.

Honorary bearers are Larry Bruner and Jimmy Thompson.
