Obituary for Jimmy Lee Melton

Jimmy Lee Melton, of Healdton, departed this life on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa at the age of 79 years, 4 months, and 5 days. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 19, 2022 at the Milo Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at the Dixie Cemetery in Stephens County, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Healdton.

Jim was born on April 9, 1943 in Idabel, OK to the late Mr. Gaius A. Melton and Mrs. Lorene (Dickerson) Melton.

He attended school in Eastern Oklahoma and Fox. He started working in the oilfield at a early age and continued this work all of his life. He had worked for J.D. Lewis Construction Company for over 35 years doing various jobs from heavy equipment operator to pumping wells. He started working for them in 1987 and retired in 2022. He and the late Mrs. Linda (Weatherford) Melton were united in marriage on February 5, 1963 in Clemscott, OK. Together they made their home in Healdton most of their lives where they would raise their family. At the age of 9 he taught himself to play the guitar and was a talented musician. He loved playing music for family, friends and at church. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Milo Baptist Church.

Mr. Melton is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda (Weatherford) Melton in 2016; and a son, Kenny Melton in 1992.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura Charles and her husband Robert of Eufaula; grandchildren Lauren Kilcrease and husband Dakota of Ratliff City, Ashley McIntosh and husband Isaiah of Eufaula, and Brayden Charles and wife Chelina of Eufaula; great grandchildren, Jadyn and Jaxyn McIntosh, Waylon and Wylee Kilcrease, Taelynn and Tymber Charles; brother, Johnny Melton and wife Linda of Fox; sister, Marie Applegate and husband William of Healdton; sister in law, Patsy Black of Paoli; extended family, Chris Godwin of Ardmore; Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Serving as casket bearers will be Dakota Kilcrease, Johnny Melton, Rodney Gaither, Randy Gaither, Willy Applegate, and Rodrigo Lara.

Honorary casket bearers will be Robert Charles, Brayden Charles, Isaiah McIntosh, Employees of J.D. Lewis Construction Company and his great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 - 8:00 P.M. Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Alexander Gray Funeral Home of Healdton.
