Obituary for Norma Jean Lee (Walls)

Velma - Funeral services for Norma Jean (Walls) Lee, 93, are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Alexander Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Velma with Rocky Keck officiating. Interment will follow to New Velma Cemetery.

Norma was born in Konawa, Ok on March 10, 1929, left this world and joined her family in Heaven on June 10, 2022, in Holliston, MA. That is 74 years to the day since her marriage to Alfred Lee in Stonewall OK in 1948.

She called Velma, OK, home along with her husband Alfred of 48 years. They had wonderful friends and family and all three of their children (Jeanetta, Butch and Joe) graduated from Velma-Alma High School. Norma Jean and Alfred were involved in the community in many ways as well as the Alma Baptist Church where Roger Sims was the church’s pastor.

She was a lifelong member of the Velma and then Duncan Eastern Star and served as the Worthy Matron.
For much of her life, Norma was a homemaker and an incredibly determined but gentle soul. She was a second mother to most of Joe and Butch’s friends. She made the best homemade cinnamon rolls in the county and every time she was a bit peeved, Butch would tell her she would feel a lot better if she went to the kitchen and make a batch. Every time Dad’s garden grew bigger, she would freeze and can as much as she wanted and then give away the rest when Dad was not around.

Later in life she became a cosmetologist and ran a beauty shop in Velma with many satisfied customers. She always noticed everyone’s hair style and practiced doing perms and hair styles on her daughter Jeanetta, when she was in elementary school, much to her disdain. Norma was much better at her profession after earning her license and when she had her own shop. She even tried to die Joe’s red hair until Dad caught her just in time.
