Obituary for Alwanda G. Hester (Acree)

Wilson - Private Family Graveside Services for Mrs. Alwanda “Shub” G. Hester, 92 of Mead were scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 12, 2022 at Hewitt Cemetery. Services were under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Wilson.

Alwanda was born on March 8, 1930 and was the fifth child of seven. She was raised in Seminole attending school there until the 2nd grade moving to Healdton where she attended school at Wirt and Dundee. When she was 12 she learned how to drive so she could drive her mother around. Alwanda married the love of her life, Billy Joe Hester on August 20, 1947 in Wichita Falls, TX and together, they were blessed with three children, Carla, Dennis, and Danny. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1999. Alwanda worked for the bank in Wilson for several years before her and Bill moved to Quanah, TX. From that point on, she became a devoted homemaker making her famous dishes for holidays, making hamburgers every Saturday, making tons of memories at the lake with her family and never missing a hair appointment that always lead to a lunch date with Bill.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of 52 years, Bill; siblings, Hobert “Porky”, Nola “Peewee”, Marguerite “Chick”, Osie “Midge”, Eugene “Pete”, and Elick Acree; sons, Dennis and Danny Hester; and mother in law, Dicie Stearns.

Alwanda is survived by her daughter Carla Wood and husband Alan; grandchildren, Lori Wood, Cody Wood and wife Jamie, and Jessica Love and husband Grant; step grandchildren, Coby Moore and wife Shari and Cory Moore; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn “KK” Wood, Austin Womack and Allison “Allie” Wood; and by a host of other family and friends.
